Legal Requirements in Uganda

Death Certificate

Required document. Obtain from hospital, KCCA, or sub-county LC offices. Needed before burial and for estate matters.

Burial Permit

Required for cemetery burials. Issued by KCCA or district office. Family land burials may not require a permit.

Land Rights

Confirm ownership of burial site. Avoid burying on contested land — family disputes can cause exhumation orders.

Medical Certificate

If death was sudden or unexplained, police may require a post-mortem. Report to Uganda Police before moving the body.
